Built for where your programs are delivered.

Lukio manages your health program's data: the people you serve, every encounter with them, and how your program is doing.  It keeps working on slow and dropping internet, and Lukio Health runs the CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program on it today.

What Lukio does for your program

Manage your program's data, see how your program is doing, and share what it achieves.

Manage your data

Intake and enrollment
Take in each person once, then enroll them in any program, cohort or group.
Encounters
Log every session, visit or check-in, with the measures your program tracks.
Longitudinal records
Each person's record builds encounter by encounter, across cohorts and program years.
Kept secure
Your records are yours, seen only by the people whose job needs them, and never sold or shared.

See how you're doing

Measures at every level
Indicators and milestones for each participant, cohort, staff member, program and site, and across every site you oversee.
Outcomes for evaluation
Reach, retention and outcomes by program year, ready for your program evaluation.

Share your successes

An impact report
A printable report of your program's reach and results, told with your own stories and partners.
Reports for your funder
Funder reports come straight from what you entered, with a list of anything to fix before you submit.

Built for where you work

Two things shaped Lukio: internet connections that come and go, and busy staff who are often new to the software.  These features came from both.

  • Keeps working offline. Staff keep entering when the connection drops, and everything sends when it comes back.
  • Catches mistakes as you type. Each entry is checked on the spot, so problems are fixed while the form is still in hand.
  • Guides each entry. Screens follow your program's own forms step by step, from one encounter to the next.
  • Reads your paper forms. Photo or scan a form, and the record fills in for a person to check and save.

The connections Lukio is built for

Pacific connectivity runs on submarine fiber, satellite and cellular, and it changes island by island.  These are the networks Lukio's users work over today.

Why connectivity matters

A server in your office needs

  • Equipment to buy
  • Someone to look after it
  • Power, backups and repairs
  • Parts shipped from far away

With Lukio, you get

  • One secure data center, looked after for you
  • One small team keeping it running for every organization
  • Computers that connect when they can and send their work
  • Fixes and improvements that reach everyone together

Every new cable and satellite link makes that faster, and opens the door to telehealth and shared records.  Everyone deserves the option to be connected.

Jurisdiction Connectivity
Federated States of Micronesia Fiber · Satellite · Cellular

Four states spread across 2,700 km: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae.  Connectivity differs a great deal from state to state.

Pohnpei HANTRU-1 submarine cable; East Micronesia Cable System; Starlink; FSMTC 4G/LTE
Chuuk Fiber via Pohnpei; Starlink; FSMTC cellular on Weno
Yap Direct fiber link to Guam; Starlink; FSMTC 4G/LTE
Kosrae East Micronesia Cable System; Starlink community gateway
Republic of Palau Fiber · Satellite · Cellular

First connected by submarine cable in December 2017 through SEA-US.  A second cable, Palau Cable 2, adds redundancy.

Koror / Babeldaob SEA-US branch cable; Palau Cable 2; Starlink; PNCC cellular
Republic of the Marshall Islands Satellite · Cellular

1,156 islands across 750,000 square miles of ocean.  The country relies on satellite, and a submarine cable is planned.

Majuro Starlink; NTA 4G cellular; Central Pacific Cable planned
Outer Atolls Starlink; limited cellular
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Fiber · Satellite · Cellular

Saipan, Tinian and Rota, connected to Guam by several submarine cables.  The Proa cable adds a direct link to Japan.

Saipan ATISA cable; Proa cable; 4G/LTE coverage
Tinian Backhaul through Saipan; cellular
Rota Backhaul through Saipan; limited cellular
Guam Fiber · Cellular

The telecommunications hub of the Western Pacific.  More than a dozen submarine cables meet here between Asia and the Americas.

Island-wide 12+ submarine cable systems; island-wide fiber; 4G/LTE/5G; Proa and Bulikula cables adding capacity
American Samoa Fiber · Satellite · Cellular

Connected to Samoa by the Tui-Samoa cable.  The Le Vasa project links it to Fiji through Google's Pacific Connect initiative.

Tutuila Tui-Samoa cable; Le Vasa cable project; Starlink; BlueSky/ASTCA 4G
Manu'a Islands Satellite; limited cellular
Hawaii Fiber · Cellular

Mature infrastructure with several trans-Pacific cables.  The Hawaii Inter-island Fiber Link (HIFL) connects the major islands.

Neighbor Islands HIFL inter-island fiber ($120M, 24 fiber pairs)

Set up for your field

Lukio is built from what every health program has: the staff who do the work, the people you serve, the cohorts and groups they belong to, and the encounters that build each person's record over time, like sessions, visits or check-ins.  Each program is set up from those pieces.

Lukio began in 2018 as the data system for a CDC-funded diabetes prevention program across the US-Affiliated Pacific Islands, where the tools available didn't work for the sites running it.  It started in spreadsheets, became an application in 2019, and has grown since through site visits and the feedback of the staff who use it every day.

The name joins lux, the Latin word for light, with "io," for input and output.

Lukio is built by Sean Rodriguez in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Questions

Who owns our program's data?

Your organization does.  We build tools and secure your records to run them.  Your data is never sold or shared.

What does it cost?

The National Diabetes Prevention Program in Lukio Health is free for the Pacific Islander diabetes prevention programs that helped build it: the organizations we've worked alongside since 2018 and the sites that have joined them since.  Every other program, in Lukio Health or beyond it, is a paid service set up with you.  Tell us about your needs, and we'll give you a clear answer.

Does Lukio work without internet?

Work keeps going when the connection drops.  Entries made offline stay on the computer and send when the connection comes back.  Signing in the first time and installing updates need a connection.

How are health records protected?

Records are encrypted and kept secure, each person sees only what their role needs, and every change is tracked.

What languages does it support?

English today.  Pacific languages come next, translated and checked by native speakers.

Who do we call for help?

Support comes straight from the people who build Lukio.  Email us and we'll set a time that works across the Pacific time zones.

Tell us about your needs

Tell us about your program or service and where your staff work, and we'll tell you plainly whether Lukio fits.
